The James Michel Foundation to be represented at the 5th Sustainable Ocean Summit
Former Seychelles President James Alix Michel has been invited to deliver the keynote address at the 5th Sustainable Ocean Summit, organised by the World Ocean Council. The Summit’s theme this year is “The Ocean Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 14): Business Leadership and Business Opportunities”.
Since 2010, the Sustainable Ocean Summit has been the unique gathering of the world’s ocean industries focusing on the sustainable development, science and stewardship of the global ocean.
The World Ocean Council brings together the diverse ocean business community (shipping, fisheries, oil and gas, aquaculture, offshore renewables, tourism, seabed mining, marine technology, manufacturers, law, retailers, insurers, finance, etc.) to achieve the business benefits of cross-sectorial leadership and collaboration.
The World Ocean Council develops global platforms on crosscutting ocean business and sustainability challenges, e.g. ocean policy and governance, marine planning, marine debris, marine sound, marine mammal impacts, water pollution, data collection by industry vessels and platforms, sea level rise/extreme event impacts, priority regions (Arctic, Indian Ocean), and investment and innovation for ocean sustainable development.
The Sustainable Ocean Summit 2017 focuses on:
– Ocean business community leadership in achieving the U.N. “Ocean” Sustainable Development Goal – SDG 14;
– Developing business growth and investment opportunities in ocean sustainable development.
– Ensuring continuity and following through with the themes, discussions, and outputs of previous SOS events.
– Building on the results and momentum of the U.N. Ocean/SDG 14 Conference (June 2017) and other ocean events of 2017 by bringing these to the unique convening of the global ocean business community that the SOS provides.
The 5th Sustainable Ocean Summit (SOS) is being held from 29 November – 1 December 2017 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
President Michel is being represented at the Summit by the CEO of the James Michel Foundation, Mr Jacquelin Dugasse. The former president will, however, deliver a keynote address by video link to the Summit.
